📖 Lexicon

SFTP

It is a protocol for transferring files securely over the Internet.

SFTP, or SSH File Transfer Protocol, is a network protocol that provides file transfer and data manipulation over a secure data channel.

Let me explain it in a simpler way. 🧐

Imagine you have to send an important letter by post. You want to be sure that the letter reaches its destination unopened and undamaged. To do this, you use a secure envelope that can only be opened by the recipient. What's more, you choose a reliable postal service to send it.

This is more or less what the SFTP protocol does with your files when they are transferred over the Internet. It "wraps" your files in an extra layer of security to ensure that they cannot be "opened" or viewed by unauthorised people while they are being transferred. In addition, it ensures that files arrive at their destination (i.e. the destination server) unaltered and undamaged.

In short, SFTP is a secure and efficient way of sending files from point A to point B on the Internet. And it's what we use for data import at Vidata! 😊

What does the phrase "you can deposit your information on an SFPT file" mean?

When we say "you can drop your info onto an SFTP file", this means that you can gather all the data you need (in this case, customer data to generate custom videos) and place it in a file, usually in CSV format.

Once this file has been created, you then send it to a specific location on a server using the SFTP protocol. It's a bit like dropping a letter into a letterbox, hence the use of the word 'drop'.
